An Opportunity to Transform Lives
SIM and ECWA (the Evangelical Church of West Africa) are passionate about training hospital staff to be Christian witnesses and by providing compassionate and excellent care to their patients.
Trained chaplains share with hundreds of patients in the waiting rooms and provide inpatient counselling and follow-up. The 200 nurses and midwives in training, annually, have a unique opportunity upon graduation to demonstrate their faith through their witness as employees in other hospitals.
The goal of the revitalization project is to
- recruit and raise up dynamic Nigerian leaders who will demonstrate and mentor Christian values in providing excellent health care services
- partner with ECWA and the Egbe community to demonstrate unity in responding to physical and spiritual needs
- provide evangelistic outreach through outpatient and inpatient services
- partner with local clinics to improve health care delivery and to share the Gospel
Staffing and Recruitment Needs
SIM is recruiting missionaries to serve as consultants, for a 2-5 year commitment, in the following positions of:
- Chief Medical Officer/Family Doctor
- Maintenance Manager
- Director of Administration
- Head Nurse Consultant
- Surgeon
The goal is to assemble a team of medical, administrative and maintenance professionals who have the skills and passion to work together to establish the hospital into a model rural facility.
We are looking for seasoned professionals with cross cultural experience who share the vision of re-establishing the hospital as a first-rate Christian medical and training facility in Nigeria. The missionaries will work alongside Nigerian professionals to nurture strong leadership in the areas of health care, administration, and maintenance enabling the Nigerian staff to lead the hospital into the future.
Equipment Needs
Medical - A key component of the project is to replace obsolete equipment and to acquire necessary equipment for patient care and training.
Maintenance - Basic tools and equipment are needed to assist in the overall maintenance and perform specific repairs and renovations.
Hospital and Housing Infrastructure
Infrastructure upgrades will include the reorganization of inpatient wards as well as rebuilding where structural deterioration has occurred. To better serve the 15,000 + outpatients cared for annually, revitalization efforts include improving the Out-Patient Department.
Structural repairs and upgrades of staff housing will be addressed to ensure that accommodations are available for current and prospective staff. This includes re-roofing, general repair and maintenance.
Water and Electricity
ECWA Hospital currently receives water from a combination of boreholes and two large reservoirs. The delivery of non-intermittent, clean water to patients, staff and students is essential.
Revitalization efforts would focus on guarding this asset, ensuring that any leaks or damage to structural walls are addressed.
The provision of stable electricity is necessary for medical services and surgery is essential.
Revitalization efforts include a review of current generator systems and the introduction of some solar power and battery back-up systems.
Technology
Communication within and beyond the hospital complex is a critical component of the revitalization project.
The goal in this area is to provide secure and reliable internet service, upgrade existing hardware, and install record keeping and accounting software.
