SIM Canada's Focus Projects

You can give to a cause
You can give to a cause that you care about and SIM will distribute your gift where most needed or divide it equally among these projects.

or give directly to a project
...and you can also give directly to a project that interests you and SIM will ensure your gift is sent only to this specific project.

SIM worldwide have well over 1,000 projects that need funding and personnel. SIM Canada have concentrated resources into eight causes which represents 17 projects of focus.

Food Security More than 38 million people across Africa currently face food shortages. The prices of food have risen beyond reach, while either drought or floods have dramatically cut food production. SIM Canada is working with farmers on improving their methods, forming cooperatives to access credit, and increasing their control over farming. This work is increasing and stabilizing food production, helping bring people from the edge of survival.

Health Education
Prevention of disease, malnutrition and illness save lives around the world. Prevention is the best form of health care, and it starts with education, awareness, and changing behaviors. SIM is working with communities throughout the world helping raise awareness of health issues such as hygiene, sanitation, water, and malaria so they remain healthy and strong.

Health Treatment
Providing medical treatment has been a cornerstone of SIM’s work for the past 100 years. SIM has doctors, nurses, and medical personnel throughout the world treating patients. SIM is working in some of the most remote and neediest places in the world, where health care is otherwise not accessible, saving lives with critical operations, monitoring, and treatment.

Education
Education is essential to building society and taking steps out of poverty. SIM is working towards "education for all” by establishing schools, providing teaching, and training teachers throughout the world. Children are accessing knowledge and skills which would have never been available otherwise, bringing entire families out of poverty.

HIV/AIDS
There are an estimated 33.2 million people living with HIV globally and 2.5 million new infections annually. Yet there is great progress being made to slow or halt the impact. New medical break-throughs and lower costs allow people with AIDS to receive often life saving treatment, and live healthier lives. SIM has partnered with CIDA to respond to community needs.

Church Leadership
SIM recognize the need to have trained people leading churches. With more immigrants coming to Canada than ever before there is an urgent need to equip and enable churches to be effective in their community.

Emergency Relief
Communities in many parts of the world are vulnerable to famines and disasters. East Africa is currently experiencing severe famines, and other parts of the world are attempting to recover from significant floods or other natural disasters. SIM is working in these parts of the world providing emergency relief and rehabilitation. It is hoped that the early response and extended presence by SIM will reduce the impact and help recovery.

Mobilization
SIM Canada, is actively engaged in mobilizing people to mission through activities here and abroad. In Brazil, an office has been opened and is challenging the church to send missionaries overseas. Locally SIM Canada is strengthening its regional representation to invest in relationships that will mobilize more people to mission.

Our Goals
SIM merge compassion with skills training to enable individuals to develop wholistically, while equipping local churches to become active agents of transformation in their communities.

Proclaimation and IncarnationSIM ministers to people in the areas of health care, emergency relief and community development alongside the local church. Our evangelistic and church-planting efforts go hand in hand with ministering to human need. As in Jesus' ministry, God's love is both taught (proclaimation) and demonstrated (incarnation).
