“I was hungry and you gave me food to eat, thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you gave me cloth. I was sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to me” (Matthew 25: 35-36).
We would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to our site, and to thank you for your willingness to be our Prayer/Support Partner in our New Immigrants Community Outreach and Ministries in the GTA.
As onetime Newcomers to Toronto, Canada, we appreciate the pains and challenges of being in an entirely new environment, especially for those fleeing persecution and violence in their home country in search of safety and protection in another country.
We passionately serve in Community and Newcomer/refugee Outreach Ministries across the GTA under the Umbrella of SIM Canada. We are also part of the Mobilization Team of SIM.
Currently, we carry out our Newcomers Outreach and Ministries at the Victoria Park Hub, where we provide counseling, prayer sessions and practical assistance to the needs of the Hub clients and visitors, who are mostly from the Middle East and Africa. They are also mostly women and young children.
Some of their practical needs include:
- Food and clothing
- Means of transportation in moving around the city (TTC Transportation).
- Refugee/Immigration Documentation
- Identifying Places in the city (post office, grocery stores, clinics, banks, well fair offices, etc).
- English Language proficiency
- Adjustment to Environment, food and culture
We are in partnership with a food bank in Victoria Park Village for their food needs.
We are in contact with at least ten New Immigrants per week, and some of them have honored invitation to the monthly Community Dinner at East Toronto Chinese Baptist church. Sometimes also, we take our ministries to Hotels and Refugee Houses where New Immigrants are initially lodged before they find alternate accommodations.
We continue to count on your Prayerful/Financial support as we continue to show love and care of Jesus to these “Little Ones”. Even $25 regular donation will go a long way in helping the needy in our community.
“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”. We know you care a lot.
