"By Prayer" is the motto of SIM. What does it mean to you and how do you live it out?

Had the opportunity to teach on prayer and walking in the Spirit for a week at One Hope's Encounter School of Discipleship. Half-way through the week one student came to me and asked if we could pray together for his second semester tuition fees. He'd taken a giant leap of faith and flown over from England practically penniless. On our knees we went and prayed earnestly and confidently. Next day he walks in the room with a big smile and a big answer to prayer. $6000 toward his tuition..paid in full.. by one donor... Bam!! The Power of Prayer...the Power of our God!!

Remember Paul? I drove him to a job interview a few days ago and he got the job! Pays way better than the last one. I'm praising God for providing Paul this job. It's given him hope again.
Another Prayer Update

So thankful for those who are standing with us in prayer. Here's the latest:
This week I got a call from another "prodigal son" mired in addictions. Lets call him "John" He wanted me to come by, so I did. I took him out to Tim Hortons where he opened up about his pain and desire to change. Pray for John the desire to change is great, but the power to change is found in Christ. Pray that John will forsake everything, counting it loss to gain Christ. I believe through prayer this will be.
Also pray for Paul, pray for a job for him, a stable home, and most of all that he would take hold of Christ again.

This week also brought tragedy. A dear member of our church Matt Finnamore unexpectedly passed away. I was able to spend time at the hospital with Matt's family and be at his bedside as we prayed him into the hands of his Father in heaven. Pray for the family and many unsaved at the funeral tomorrow that I will co-officiate. Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies it remains only a single seed, but if it dies it produces many seeds..Jn 12:24. Pray for many seeds from this precious seed we sow.
God's Provision

What a faithful God we have! In the last week since folks began to pray for us. Even our support went from 83% to 93% from an anonymous donor. Isn't prayer astounding? Praise the Lord, He saw our need and provided. Our cup runneth over! Pray also that the Lord would bless the givers 10 fold.
Keep Praying!

Here's A quick update on how things are going with *Paul*: I took Paul(see previous post) to church after a long hiatus. I asked him after what it was like. He said it was like he was 16 again when he first came to church. I'll be going with him to hand out resumes tomorrow. I also might be able to get him a room that he can rent in a house with other believers. Pray that this works out because he needs to be surrounded by godly influence and accountability. I'll let you all know how that works out soon.
ALSO:
I got a FB message out of the blue from another Prodigal last night. Call him "Joe." He's stuck in alcoholism. Joe wants me to stop by his place and talk about his life. Pray that this actually happens. Very often Joe cancels at the last minute or disappears for a while, because He drank to much again and feels to ashamed and guilty to turn to God.

Keep praying folks! Stuff is happening that doesn't usually happen and I'm sure its because our Ignite Team is praying!

Discipleship Update
Don Longworth said...
2 years, 2 months, 2 weeks, 6 days ago
I got a text from a good friend(I'll call him Paul) and fellow disciple I walked with for several years. For a long while there was silence from him. He'd "fallen of the wagon" and over the course of 6 months he said to me, "I've destroyed everything" I picked him up and for 4 hours we walked as he poured out his shame, brokenness and regret. We sat down at a picnic bench and talked about repentance and how regret and brokenness was good, but repentance is more than that. Is destroying the idols and running toward Jesus. God gave me a word for him. The words of Jesus after Peter's denial came to mind...I said to him, "Paul, Jesus wants to know if you love him? Paul, Jesus wants to know if you love him? Do you love him Paul? He wept. "Yes, I love him" "Then, Paul Jesus wants you to serve him and feed his sheep" We prayed. He wept.
Pray for Paul. He's only 3 days into his repentance. We need to pray hard in these critical days. To all those who have joined the 30 days of prayer campaign, thank you! Would you pray especially for Paul?
What are your daily spiritual practices to keep your focus on God and the Gospel each and every day?
Don Longworth said...
2 years, 3 months ago
One of my daily practices I borrowed from Oswald J. Smith(Endowment of Power). In the fly leaf of my personal spiritual journal I have this written daily resolution that I practice:

Resolution #1

That before my day begins, I be filled with the Holy Spirit as commanded in Eph 5:18. Without whom I have no power to glorify God, no power to overcome my flesh and no power to serve my Lord. Each day I shall:

1. CONFESS any and all known sin. I shall cleans my temple unto the Lord(1 John 1:9, 1 Cor 6:19)
2. I shall RENOUNCE any and all known sin. That is, I will cast aside even my desire to harbor affections toward those sins I confessed. I will count them as complete loss and leave them behind that I might gain Christ. This may also mean renouncing 'good' things that have become idols.
3. I shall SURRENDER myself, my future, my hopes and yield myself up to God's puposes. I will still myself like a weaned child surrendered and content in God's will for me.
4. I will OBEY what God has already revealed and what he shows me today regardless of how foolish I appear or the criticism or opposition I face.
5. I will BELIEVE by faith that the promised filling of the Holy Spirit is given. I shall walk consciously and purposefully mindful of the endowment of power even if my feelings and emotions get in the way.

Such a joy to bring the word of God at Kingsley this Sunday. Spoke on Hosea 6- "Come let us return to the Lord..he has torn us to pieces..but HE WILL heal us... HE WILL bind up our wounds ...HE WILL revive us...HE WILL Restore us...HE WILL come to us like the rain."

Had the worship team from Lincoln Baptist with us at the Tent of Meeting for a Saturday of team building, prayer, and teaching on true worship. Thanks team for your heart of worship! Lets do it again some time. May God unite you and be glorified as you lead God's children into His presence with praise!
What specific things are you listening / reading / watching that has helped you stay encouraged in your ongoing journey?

Had a day away with God today. Some time to pray, and read scripture. I also picked up an old favorite. Fresh Wind Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala. If you ever think you church is to far gone...just remember God is attracted to our weakness! This is one of the most influential books on the power of prayer and revival I've ever read. Had me in tears.

Pray for our upcoming Men's discipleship retreat at The Threshing Floor (threshingfloor.ca). We will have small group of likeminded men from across New Brunswick gathering with us. We believe that God would have us collaborate for the glory of God and revival in New Brunswick. Pray that the Spirit show us the way forward.

What does your daily life look like currently?

If you missed Jesus to the Nations in Halifax this weekend don't miss it next March. I Was blessed to spend the weekend rubbing shoulders with many inspiring missionaries from all over the world. The most valuable treasures of conferences like these are the one on one encounters learning humble servants of God who are taking the world by storm for the glory of God and the Gospel. I'm also encouraged to see how so many mission agencies work together for the Glory of God in a real spirit of collaboration.
How has the Gospel changed the people that you've been in contact with?

Praise God for the opportunity to reconnect with a young guy who I worked with 3 years ago. He chose to go back to drinking and drugs for 2 years, but recently has repented. We've been spending time together seeking God and he is being delivered and finding freedom in Christ again.

After health problems, we returned to eastern Canada to work with SIM Culture Connections in evangelism, discipleship and mobilizing churches to reach the marginalized in their communities. By the Way...if your looking for a mission that takes care of its missionaries in the hard times...SIM was there for us and held us up when we had no strength left. Its one SIM's greatest strengths as a mission organization.
