Staying Behind

By Lucia Eberle (Project Manager of Dorcas Widows Project NIGER)

As I brought 4 leaders of Dorcas Widows project to their bush taxi on this harmattan day in Niamey. I had joy. I had peace. I was so proud.

This time I was not embarking on this trip.

I didn’t suggest this mission.

It came from their heart.

It came from their initiative.

It was all them.

A few weeks prior, Mantou had a visit from a widow from a village a couple of hours away from Niamey coming to plead for help for many widows in her region.

She had heard about Dorcas Widows project.  She wanted to meet the white lady. She wanted to get help financially. As Mantou shared with me her heart desire to go visit them to see and evaluate the situation, I encouraged her to go. Dorcas Widows project would send her.

She had heard from this widow their extreme poverty. So she started telling all the widows to bring clothes. She shared at church and women she knew around her the need. I also helped by getting clothes among expats here in Niamey.

We got so much. What a blessing to see how God touched many hearts to give. Mantou also got 3 other leaders from the group to go with her.  And they told me not to go. For security reasons in that region and because they had wanted so much to see the white lady.

I agreed with their counsel. As I prayed with these dear friends that morning, I had such a JOY.

Isn’t it what we are supposed to do? Prepare, equip, encourage, send, bless, trust … others in the ministry God is making us part of. Today I had so much joy “to stay behind” … because I was sending 4 widows that I call my friends and partners in this ministry.

Ephesians 4:12:  to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.

The Dorcas Master Project is in our 2017 Gift Catalogue. Consider how you can support this project this Christmas!

University Student Outreach: A Campus Tour
07/24/17 · I thought I was done with that life – those days in university that included late nights writing papers, a caffeine addiction that enabled the aforementioned late nights as well as 8 am lectures. Not to mention sharing a bathroom with three other girls and dining hall food. But here I am, back on campus. This time, I'm at a university in China to learn...
The Hagars of our Time
10/10/17 · The well-known story of Hagar in the book of Genesis is repeated over and over again today. I have seen the Hagars of our time walking around especially in the cities of West African countries. But in the recent years many of them have come to Europe expelled from their countries because of a war or hoping to find a better future for the babies they hold in their
