Widow's Ministry
Africa
The Dorcas Widows project (Dorcas) was founded in 2006 by Lucia's mother, Soula Isch. Dorcas responds to the crucial needs of widows in 3 countries in West Africa. Widows in West Africa are powerless and vulnerable. They suffer from injustice, superstition and lack of security. The everyday life of a widow is affected by fear, rejection and a lack of means to support her children. Dorcas exists to show the love of Christ. Its aim is that every widow would grow in the knowledge that they are loved, and that God has a plan for them. The project helps to empower widow's voices, to provide security and hope, to create opportunities, and cultivate community with Christ at the Centre. The widows describe Dorcas as a family where they find spiritual and physical nourishment, counsel, encouragement and where they are understood. As the widows lives are improved, so are those of their children. Lucia Isch Eberle has been ministering alongside her mother with Dorcas since 2013, beginning in Niger. Her involvement grew from there as she learned more about the situation of widows in this and nearby countries. Lucia has been based in the US since May 2021, supporting from a distance, and visiting the Dorcas ministries every year. She is passionate about leadership development and knowing each widow, her story, and her steps of faith. Her desire is to grow deep in the ministry rather than growing big. Walking side by side others is her greatest joy.
"Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you." Isaiah 43:4 (NIV)
