Rick came to faith through the work of missionaries who came to Canada and ministered to the children of the community. Martha grew up in a Christian home with her mother serving as a missionary with what is called "HOPE" Today. Rick and Martha met at Church camp. Martha taught music as her own business for many years as Rick worked at a steel company. Both were very involved in their church ministries to youth and University students. With the opportunity to retire early, the Lord led Rick to join SIM as a Regional Director for Ontario. During that time, he came to understand the need in Nigeria, at first to revitalize a mission hospital. After beginning service in Nigeria, both practical and spiritual needs in the community came to light, the greatest of which was for outreach to an unreached people group. Over their years in Nigeria, Martha has been involved in establishing a youth center with a variety of programs for young people to learn skills in music, computers, and other. She continues to serve at the centre, teaching music, while Rick serves and ministers in the community.
