Position Overview:

SIM Canada is seeking an exceptional Christian leader to become its new Executive Director. We are looking for a visionary strategic thinker, an engaging and collaborative team leader, a proven networker, an excellent communicator, and someone who has a track record in organizational and fiscal management, as well as public speaking and fundraising.

Job Description:

The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. They are responsible for overseeing the overall vision, mission, strategy, leadership, and governance of the organization, including brand profile, mission impact, and financial health. Responsibilities include strategic planning and financial oversight, establishing and monitoring progress toward major goals and objectives for the organization, implementing Board policies, acting as an ambassador for the organization, fundraising and business development, establishing partnerships, evaluating impact and
outcomes, hiring and managing staff, and fostering an innovative and collaborative working environment. The Executive Director is supported by an established senior management team, including a Deputy Director, a Chief Financial Officer and a Director of Communications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy – Develops and maintains the fundamentals of a Christian Mission Organization: evangelize the unreached, minister to human need, disciple believers into churches, and equip churches to fulfil Christ’s commission. The Executive Director establishes program, project, activity, regional, office and overarching organizational objectives and strategies to meet the service and legal commitments of the organization.
  • Operational Planning and Management - Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of an organizational annual plan to assist and equip churches to engage in intercultural ministry. Facilitates the receiving and effective placement of missionaries toward realizing SIM’s mission. The Executive Director guides the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization's programs and services, operations, policies, and internal sustainability plan.
  • Human Resources Management - Determines staffing requirements, hiring, managing, and mentoring senior staff, overseeing the implementation of human resources policies and practices, including performance and learning, as well as nurturing a collaborative and innovative working culture, and promoting the organization’s core values.
  • Financial Planning and Management - Ensures the financial viability and resilience of the organization, guiding and strengthening the organization’s business model—which combines project-generated revenue with fundraising and traditional support methods—guiding the
    development and management of the annual budget, and overseeing financial management and reporting practices. The Executive Director is the authorizing and signing authority for the Corporation.
  • Strategic Partnerships and Outreach - Acts as the main spokesperson and ambassador for the organization, delivering speeches and presentations and representing SIM Canada at meetings, conferences, and events, establishing a strong brand profile in Canada, and nurturing strategic partnerships and collaborative arrangements with the Canadian Church and other mission organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Risk Management - Ensures that risk management policies and procedures are in place and observed to control risks to the organization's people, property, finances, goodwill, and image.
  • SIM International - Maintains a strong relationship with SIM International and ensures that Canada is well represented within SIM’s international community

Experience, Qualifications, and Characteristics:

The ideal candidate will be a Christian leader who is:

  • Experienced:
    ○ At least five years with a proven track record in a leadership position
    ○ Non-profit management, missionary service in Canada or overseas, or senior consulting experience
    ○ Good problem-solving skills

Location:

  • The head office of SIM Canada is located in Toronto (Scarborough). Strong preference will be
    given to hiring someone who is able to work in Toronto.

Position Overview:

We’re searching for a Candidate and Placement Coordinator (C&PC) who will work with Canadian applicants toward cross-cultural engagement (either locally or overseas). You will be primarily responsible for walking with prospective ministry workers from the initial inquiry stage to their field placement. The C&PC’s position is highly relational; therefore, we seek someone developed in their Christian faith and walk. You will be tasked with discerning along with inquirers and assisting them in investigating their Great Commission call for them to use their gifts and skills to serve God with SIM in missions here in Canada or across borders at this time. Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the application process for prospective ministry workers (short-term, mid-term and long-term)
  • Search through our Ministry Opportunities database and communicate with the field offices to identify suitable placements for candidates and coordinate placement details
  • Maintain the electronic Personnel Files
  • Update statuses and details on the various databases as they move through the process
  • Supporting the Personnel Director in various duties
  • Put into practice procedures from the “SIM International Personnel Principles & Practices” Handbook
  • As it relates specifically to short-term and mid-term ministry workers (aka, “associates”):
    • Coordinate the preparations for service for individuals and teams
    • Create trip budgets
    • Monitor their raised funds and their financial accounts with SIM
    • Facilitate one-day office visits/orientations
    • Facilitate and coordinate the re-entry and debriefing of missionaries
  • As it relates to long-term ministry workers (aka. “Members”):
    • Assist the Personnel Director with pre-field Orientation
  • Other Duties as assigned:
    • Participate in webinars and learning cafés
    • People In Process (PIP) coordination
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A combination of education and work experience in the church/missions arena
  • Spiritual and personal maturity, plus a commitment to learning and growing
  • A passion for long-term Christian ministry
  • Sensitivity and discernment in dealing with people
  • Administrative ability to keep the procedures moving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask with great follow-up skills
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities, administrative coordination, and logistics
  • Critical thinking skills and sound judgment
  • A sense of teamwork
  • Willingness to help with general tasks around the office
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite

Assets:

Work Location & Hours:

Position Overview:

We’re searching for part-time staff for our Front Desk/Reception who will attend to the front desk duties and perform various administrative and clerical tasks. You will be the first point of contact for SIM Canada and the tenants in the building. You are primarily responsible for answering the phone and directing calls to the appropriate person or organization. The Front Desk/Reception position is relational in nature; therefore, we seek someone who is developed in their Christian faith and walk.

This position reports directly to the Personnel Director.

We facilitate the participation in cross-cultural ministry of those whom God is calling.Ultimately the duties and responsibilities of this role are to ensure that guests are welcomed positively, callers are served well, and all tasks are executed to the highest quality standard. Below are the role responsibilities in greater detail.

  • Cover for Front Desk/Reception Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
  • Be a general resource for everyone in the building
  • Answer phones and operate a switchboard, route calls to specific people/organizations, and take and relay messages accordingly
  • Greet visitors warmly and call the person(s) receiving the visitor so that they can come to greet them and take them to their meeting room
  • Give visitors badges and direct them to where they can sign in
  • Receive & sign for parcels for all organizations in the building and inform the respective person of the parcel’s arrival
  • Collect and distribute parcels and other mail
  • Schedule meetings and conference rooms
  • Maintain the electronic Personnel Files 

Maintain the travel calendar

  • Travel Calendar
  • Input new travel into the calendar
  • Summarize and send the travel calendar schedule for the upcoming month to the Executive Director, Personnel Director, and Prayer Ministry Coordinator
  • Update statuses and details in the various databases
  • Support the Personnel Director with various ad hoc tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Database Update:

  • Obtain Members’ current contact information and updated address while on Home Assignment – enter in SIMPS and provide to Finance team for an update in Raiser’s Edge

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an office environment combined with an education that supports that
  • Self-motivated professional with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Good phone etiquette
  • Knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good organizational skills, reliable and flexible
