Tyler and Jessica grew up in Christian homes in small rural communities, Tyler in Canada and Jessica in the US. Both became teachers and went to the mission field to teach missionary kids. They met and got married at a boarding school in West Africa. After experiencing two evacuations and teaching in two different countries they ended up in Niger where, after completing a year and a half of teaching and seeing missionary aviation in action, they decided to return to the US for Tyler to train as a pilot with hopes of returning to Niger to serve full time.
In 2018, now a family of five (with the sixth member to arrive in their first year of ministry), the Malletts returned to Niger where Tyler is working as a pilot/mechanic with SIMAIR serving many ministries (especially medical) in the vast Muslim desert country. Jessica serves in many roles including hospitality and various positions in the administrative office of SIM Niger when there are temporary staff needs. The kids love living in Niger and experiencing the culture. They attended a local school in French for some years and now are doing a mix of home schooling with some time at the SIM school.
Whether it is through using the airplane, interacting with the local vendors, attending and encouraging the local church, or playing soccer with friends in the street, the Mallets are thankful to get to serve with their family in Niger and do their part in taking the Gospel to where it is least known.
